Yangshou – China

In the same vein of adorable tourist town as Ubud and Siem Reap lays the Chinese mountain village of Yangshou. Located a few hours from Guilin, it wasn’t the easiest place to get to from Shenzhen. Imagine 12 hours riding in a coffin-like sleeper bus, spooning strangers, and getting your shoes stolen. But once we were on the ground again the fresh air and mountain views were (almost) worth the discomfort.

The first picture below was taken on our first day in Yangshou when the water level of the river was fairly high. The second picture is a few days later once the water had receded. An island appeared with water buffalo grazing on it! It was pretty neat to watch them swim back to shore at sunset too.

  1. Lovely photography. we took a slow boat from Guilin to Yangshou. Did you go past the famous seven horse hill and the scenery that plastered onto the 20 Yuan note. One of the evenings in Yangshou was spent at the most amazing light show in the world – I hope you got to see it

    1. Thanks for the visit! I didn’t actually see the light show. We used to live in HK and I became very disenchanted with them in general. But I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Living in Durban, South Africa they are somewhat of a rarity so we loved it.
